“Consider how hard it is to change yourself and you’ll understand what little chance you have in trying to change others.” Unknown
Fortunately we don’t need anyone else on board with us to change our own lives. Sure, support helps but we can’t always dictate who’s going to be part of our support system. We each see life and it’s happenings through our own eyes and even if we try, it can sometimes be difficult to “walk a mile in the other guy’s shoes”. People who have never struggled with eating or weight issues just may not understand and that’s OK! Our job isn’t to change anyone but ourselves for ourselves. People around us can and do change but as I’m learning, they too, do it on their terms for their reasons and can’t be pushed. Just like with our kids-the more we push, the more likely we are to encounter resistance. So what are we to do?? Out smart them! Lead by example. When you start (or continue) to live a healthy lifestyle on a consistent basis those around you are bound to pick up some of your good habits. The best way to persuade someone to be healthy is to show them the example of how good it feels and looks!!!. As you’re losing weight, you’re gaining energy and high energy is contagious. Who doesn’t want more energy??? Just do YOUR thing this week and don’t mind anyone else. If there are people in your life who are not enthusiastic about your journey, don’t waste your time sharing it with them. Surround yourself with people who do get it and share your success in those circles. Then, when you least expect it, your loved ones may just surprise you and change-well at least modify!! And if not-that’s ok too. Have fun making the changes and reaping the healthy benefits!
