A major difference between a healthy lifestyle and a diet is whether or not it is not only tolerable but ENJOYABLE. There are many short term, wacky ways we can drop pounds on the scale quickly but we are looking to keep them off permanently. We are ready to trade in our ticket to the roller coaster life of “really on” or “really off” for a lifestyle of moderation and balance in which we can get to AND maintain healthy weight while enjoying life’s pleasures.

There is physical satisfaction and mental satisfaction to consider. A big part of staying physically satisfied is to eat more of the low energy density foods….those that are low in sugar, high in fiber, usually high in water content, low in fat and minimally processed keep us full longer. Sounds like a good deal, huh?

They are a GREAT value and keeping hunger at bay is important.—But let’s not forget the other aspect of satisfaction: mental or psychological satisfaction. Red wine, chocolate, pizza and birthday cake may not have a lot of nutritional value but they sure are part of life’s great pleasures and we like them!  We want be able to enjoy these foods in moderation and we can through finding our right mix of balance!  Filling up on low energy density foods, so we spend some of our budget on higher energy density foods.

Don’t take my word for it…do your own research. Journal everything you eat and make note of how you feel after consuming different foods. It’s like a whole new world when you learn how to use veggies, whole grains, fat free milk products and lean proteins to bulk up your diet. You will find yourself with more options and choices. Now that is FUN!
