“Time is an equal opportunity employer. Each human being has
exactly the same number of hours and minutes every day. Rich
people can’t buy more hours. Scientists can’t invent new
minutes. And you can’t save time to spend it on another day.
Even so, time is amazingly fair and forgiving. No matter how
much time you’ve wasted in the past, you still have an entire
tomorrow.” — Denis Waitley
The last two weeks in March and the first two in April are full of birthdays in my family. My son, Cole, had a birthday along with five of his 11 cousins! Nothing like kid’s birthday to make you stop and ask “Where did the time go?”. It’s almost unbelievable to me that Cole is 17….how can that be??? I remember like yesterday being with my sister in the hospital when my nephew, Preston was born and today he turned 13 years old!!! Kid’s birthdays are such a reminder of how PRECIOUS time is and how valuable. It’s an incredible chance to reflect.
I used to judge the quality of each passing year by the weight I was on the scale, but as I look back, I see that kind of self judgement as such a waste. We are so much more than a number on a scale or the size on the tag of our jeans. Why is it easy for us to see at in others but not for ourselves?
I lost the 75 pounds in 2001, but the mindset was still there years later and tends to creep back in even now. I’ve overcome a lot of negative self talk, but it’s still such a challenge not to be hard on myself. I am writing this because I KNOW I am not alone either!
So, let’s take this quote to heart. Let’s take the priceless time we have been given TODAY and spend it in the most positive, joyful way possible. Whether your striving to lose weight or maintain the weight you’ve already lost, let’s do it with enjoyment. Focus as much attention as you can today on all the things for which you are grateful.
Feel the joy in moving your body, being active and eating healthy portions. Make the most of each second of today!
