If your answer is YES, take comfort in knowing you’re not alone! Many of us feel the pull of hibernation mode caused by the recent polar vortex, but “This too shall pass”!!!
A couple of nights ago I receive the above photo in an email with the caption “It better warm up soon…things are getting bleak”. Haha! No sooner did I finish having a good laugh when a text came in from another friend that ominously said “I’ve eaten two brownies already….ahhhhh!!!”
My point: If your struggling, your not alone, so buck up, avoid the urge to feel sorry for yourself and let’s do the best we can to manage this winter. Here are what I consider to be a few of the most important helpful hints to keep ourselves on track…
1.). I truly believe and have experienced the power of surrounding ourselves with positive energy and upbeat, making-it-happen kind of people. This type of surrounding will bring you up…PULL you up, even at times when you can’t do it for yourself. Call your friends who possess these qualities or make a date to meet for lunch or coffee. We don’t have to do any of this alone and it’s so much easier to borrow energy from others who have it going on. Believe me, they will be happy to share their positive mojo with you…it’s in their nature! And soon in yours too!
2.). Remind yourself over and over that food doesn’t control you. Food is an inanimate object and the only power it has is the power you give it. Is that donut really going to make you feel better or is that a power you’re trying to give it?? Will a second helping of mac and cheese make the winter any less cold and dark?? Come on now…course not!!
3.). This one is SO challenging for me when it’s freezing cold out, but…Insist that you get some kind of activity in each day. It’s not even for the calorie burn (although, of course, we like that too!) but for your mental state. Moving around helps push away the negative, sedentary thoughts of the winter blues. It just plain makes you feel better mentally and physically. Go to the grocery store and walk the aisles, go to the gym and do something..anything…walk the the mall, shovel snow…just do what you can to MOVE.
That’s all for now!
All IS well!!
