Don’t Let Regret Hold You Back Today

“Regret can be your worst enemy or your best friend. You get to decide which.” Martha Beck

Recently, after a Weight Watchers meeting, a member asked me: “When will I get these healthy behaviors down pat, so that I can stop having to ‘start over’ all the time?? I feel like I take two steps forward and one step backwards. I know what to do, but I don’t always do it!” The question made me smile because boy, do I know where she is coming from and I bet you do too!! We ALL feel that way at times and it’s OK! The truth is, taking care of our health and weight is a management process that always takes some level of focus and concentration and it’s filled with ups and downs. None of us are “perfect” all the time, but that doesn’t mean that we can’t be successful at getting to our goal weight and staying there! Take from me and any other Lifetime member you ask…this a PROCESS and it has to be realistic and involve real life situations. It’s not the occasional indulgence that makes us over weight or keeps us there. It’s what we chose to do AFTER THE INDULGENCE that determines the long term effect of our success. How we chose to move forward after a difficult day, weekend or entire week is up to us. We can use it as a learning experience and make different choices going forward, or we can let it make us miserable and send us back into the spiral of negative behaviors that made us over weight in the first place. It’s YOUR choice and it’s as simple as just getting right back on program this minute! No regrets, no guilt, just back to what we know is best for ourselves.

I went to the Schaumburg Center today at noon for the WW meeting. You were filling in for Jill. I want to thank you, not only for being so welcoming and great today, but also for leading Jill during her weight loss journey so she could become my WW leader!

I couldn’t agree more with this statement: “It’s YOUR choice and it’s as simple as just getting right back on program this minute! No regrets, no guilt, just back to what we know is best for ourselves.” That’s what keeps me going sometimes. Even if I’ve “messed up” I have the power within myself to get right back to it. My personal signature on etools is “perseverance not perfection” and when I heard you say that today, it reminded me that I can do this and I don’t have to be perfect. We all know what to do. It’s doing it that is sometime the hard part. Thanks!
