“Do not be desirous of having things done quickly. Do not look at small advantages. Desire to have things done quickly prevents their being done thoroughly. Looking at small advantages prevents great affairs from being accomplished.. ——-Confucius (551 B.C.-479 B.C.)
WOW. What an insightful quote and the more I think about, the more real life examples of how true it is come to mind.— When it comes to weight loss we all want it off as fast a possible but that is where we need to the change of attitude, expectation and heart. How long does it take? I can’t even begin to answer that and neither can anyone else accurately (there are plenty of fly-by-night diets out there who will say they can but they have no idea who you are or how to help you change your behaviors and habits permanently). Practice makes perfect. Ok, not perfect, but more habitual and consistent! We didn’t develop our less-than-healthy habits over night and we probably won’t shake them that quickly either. It’s a process for all of us and it varies, but it doesn’t matter how long it takes. That’s right, read it again–It Just Does Not Matter. Once you reach your weight goal (besides looking and feeling like a million bucks) not a lot changes with your behaviors. Its a forward moving train that doesn’t go backwards or stop. Taking care of our health and gaining control of our eating is a management process that we most importantly need to enjoy and embrace so we can stay committed for life. Have a fabulous afternoon, enjoy the beautiful snow and when you reach for a snack just because it sounds tasty at that moment, reconsider this part of the above quote: “Looking at small advantages prevents great affairs from being accomplished.”.
