I started writing this blog in 2007 and continue today, hoping it will make its way to anyone who feels stuck while trying to make lifestyle changes to live at a healthy weight. Changing behaviors can be tricky if we don’t evaluate our perspective and adjust our expectations and mindset. I believe the foundation of lasting behavior change starts with four key elements:
1.) Self-compassion 2.) A growth mindset 3.) Joy in the journey 4.) Gratitude
Self-compassion is recognizing our humanity. It’s realizing and accepting that no human can be perfect 100% of the time. Therefore, when we make choices that aren’t in line with our goals, it’s an opportunity to learn, modify and move forward. This is called a Growth Mindset, and it leads to lasting success and facilitates joy in the journey! The fourth foundation of lasting behavior change is the practice of gratitude for today and using the good feeling energy of appreciation to propel us forward into the actions we want to take.

A “Good” Week vs. a “Bad” Week
When a new week rolls around after a celebratory weekend or a holiday, often many of us look back and consider it to be a "bad" week. I know we only mean "bad" when it comes to weight loss or the healthiest of choices but I'm sick of doing it!! I'd like to work to...
Don’t Allow Fear To Over Shadow Your Joy
Contrary to popular belief, the most important thing we need to exercise isn't our bodies.......it's control over our own thoughts. Our thoughts determine our mood and actions for the day. We have been given the power to choose how we feel, no matter what the...

Stick To The Good Thoughts
One thing I've learned with out a shadow of a doubt in my 43 years of life is that our thoughts are reflected in our lives. As Wayne Dyer has said ..."What you think about is what you bring about." This certainly holds true for changing your life for the healthier and...

Don’t Be Tempted To Quit
The first week that I was back on Weight Watchers I lost 3 pounds. It was the week after my family vacation and I was thrilled. My thoughts went something like this: "At 3 pounds lost per week, that's 3, 6, 9, 12! Perfect! I'll average a 12 pound weight loss and...
