There are a lot of unknowns for all of us right now and riding the waves of emotion that accompany this uncertainty is a very real challenge. I had to laugh when a friend, in one of my group texts, summoned it up like this:
This is uncharted territory but we WILL come out of it. When that time comes, wouldn’t it be great if we are feeling our very best? The last thing we want is to get back to “normal life” and feel like we have another uphill battle ahead of us undoing the behaviors from our time sheltering in place. No thanks!
Although the list of things we can’t control is long, there are still many, many things we CAN control. This isn’t the time to put our self care on the back burner. As a matter of fact, it’s the perfect time to put the focus on our health and well being. Finding creative outlets to fill our time, getting enough rest, eating home cooked, whole foods, spending quality time with our families….even if that means remotely like on a Zoom call or HouseParty…..are all ways to help ourselves feel good. When we feel good, it’s so much easier to want to add in more healthy behaviors.
No amount of watching the news or contemplating when the shelter in place will end will change the outcome. And there isn’t a food out there or any amount of food that can do it either. So why not refocus that energy into something with an outcome we CAN control?? Something that feels GOOD. When it comes to our health, the number on the scale isn’t everything, but there is no doubt that when we are in a weight range that’s healthy for us, it feels great.
This is a perfect time to recommit to yourself and get back to the healthy basics. Meal planning and preparation, cleaning out the pantry and refrigerator, taking that extra walk or bike ride, tracking what you eat and giving yourself the room and the grace when things don’t go 100% as planned. Using the slip ups as data or feedback allows us to simply choose differently next time.
Now is the time to take healthy action for ourselves. Let’s come out of this stronger, with more gratitude and healthier than when it started! Who’s with me????
All is well❤️

Thanks Terra! I needed this journal entry today. Been having some gains, I know it’s part of my journey, but it’s still disappointing. But so proud of my healthy habits! I’m proud of where I am! I’ve come so far! I don’t want to go back!
You’ve got this Melissa!!!! Keep your focus on your systems & let go of the outcome. You have proven over and over again that your systems work…trust yourself & your body and lean into all of the incredible success you’ve had!!!!
Very motivational message, Terra— with perfect timing for me. Thanks for taking the time to write and post it!
