Many of us have spent a deal of our lives thinking about, worrying about and lamenting over physical body weight, but what about the weight that we carry around in our thought??
When I finally started becoming conscious of how often throughout the day random, negative thoughts were popping into my head about my body size and shape and how I thought looked, it became clear why I was not feeling so good about myself! Those thoughts cause us to live in disappointment, shame, fear and they’re painful, not to mention exhausting! It plain doesn’t feel good to think unkind thoughts about ourselves! Why would I choose to hang on to those thoughts when all they do is weigh me down and make me feel bad?
Instead of rationalizing that we will like our bodies better when….we lose weight, we firm up, we wear a smaller size, blah, blah, blah, blah……let’s take charge of our thoughts NOW and exercise our power to say NO to the ones that don’t serve us well. Let’s stop focusing on what we don’t like about our bodies and get to work learning how to love and appreciate the body we have. Now, my friends, we are getting somewhere!
How do we know focusing on what you love about your body makes a difference? Notice how you FEEL. Which feels better? When we accept our bodies just as they are, even if we can do it just a little bit (I know it’s hard), we start to FEEL better. Just let go. We are meant to be happy. Joy is our birthright. And it’s not something we have to earn by first losing weight or sculpting the perfect body.
There is absolutely no reason we have to carry around worry, disappointment or frustration that goes along with being fixiated on weight! No matter how long we have been toting around this negative self talk about our bodies, we can turn it around RIGHT NOW and replace it with gratitude for all that we DO have and are. Find the thoughts that make you feel good. There really is so much good to focus when it comes to our bodies but we haven’t noticed because we have been picking out the things we don’t like instead.
Accepting and loving ourselves makes us feel lighter instantly. Ditch the list of things about your body that you don’t like or that need “fixed” and find a way to focus on thoughts of peace with what you have today. It’s a relief to know you can change the channel of your thought at anytime. We aren’t going to change anything by trying to hate the weight off. Letting go of the negative focus and finding what we love about ourselves and focusing on that instead, allows us to feel joyful and happy. We all deserve to feel this lightness right away!!!!!
All is Well!
Love,
Terra 🙂
Amen!!!
Oh Terra this is right on. Please keep it up.
Will do, Mary!!
Great post, SO true. Many of us, including myself, struggle with this. What a waste of mental energy and missing out on activities due to these thoughts. On Connect there is a new hashtag…#bathingsuitbrigade…. meaning get out there and swim, or sun…..go to the pool, go to the beach wear the suit!! Wherever you are in your journey. Summer is such a short season here in the Midwest, why would we deprive ourselves of pool, ocean or lake fun, due to negative thoughts about our bellys, batwing arms or thighs?? Sounds so silly when you put it on paper or in a post, but this is what we do to ourselves. I have not had a new bathing suit in years, went to Target last week, found some workable options andon the 4th of July was sailing wearing the suit and swam in the lake and had a wonderful time…..cellulite and all. Change the thoughts, change your choices, change your life.
Love this, Amy!! So well said and just thrilled you shared how you’re moving past the thoughts that hold us back. We have to keep cheering each other on because we all deserve to feel free! Wooohooo! Way to go!
